On September 6th, the 6th Belt and Road Forum for Traditional Chinese Medicine Development, as a summit forum of the 2023 China International Fair for Trade in Services, was successfully held at the Beijing National Convention Center. The forum was co-hosted by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, with the theme: 'Deepening Cooperation of Belt and Road Traditional Chinese Medicine Development and Jointly Creating a Global Community of Health for All'. Officials from Chinese and foreign government departments, representatives from international organizations, academicians from the Academy of Engineering, Nobel laureates, and leaders from the political consultative conferences of 10 provinces including Guangdong, Zhejiang, Shaanxi, Yunnan, Jiangxi, Fujian, Sichuan, Gansu, Hebei, and Henan, alongside diplomats from 20 embassies stationed in China from countries such as South Africa, Israel, Belarus, Pakistan, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Cape Verde, Liberia, Sri Lanka, Uruguay, and Cuba, as well as representatives from over 400 enterprises, participated in the event.

Good Morning!
It is my honor and privilege to make these remarks at this important meeting in order to enhance international exchange and cooperation in Traditional Chinese Medicine as well as strengthening external exchanges and cooperation, thereby contributing to the construction of a global community of health for all.
From the onset, allow me to join my colleagues and previous speakers in expressing gratitude to the leadership of Beijing and organizers for inviting the Zambian Embassy to this very important event. May I take this opportunity to acknowledge the special bond of friendship between Zambia and China that has existed for over 56 years?
Our historical ties and friendship which stems from the vital interests of our two countries and peoples have continued to grow from strength to strength. China's continued assistance to Zambia through initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), among others, has led to sustained and consistent strengthening of both economic and cultural ties. We are proud to have worked with you to put up critical infrastructure in Zambia such as Tanzania Zambia Railway (TAZARA), Kafue water reticulation projects, roads, airports and hydropower stations.
Excellencies, Distinguished Delegates
I must hasten to mention that Zambia will continue to uphold and treasure these relations and will ensure strengthened cooperation in various sectors of the economy in a mutually beneficial and win-win situation for both sides.
Suffice to mention that while most Chinese enterprises are keen and looking forward to going abroad to undertake mutually beneficial business ventures such as Belt and Road Traditional Chinese Medicine exchange and collaboration, there is, in most cases insufficient and inaccurate information.
I am confident that this forum will provide an excellent platform for information exchanges on how African countries can cooperate with Chinese captains of industry in Traditional Chinese Medicine in contributing to the construction of a global community of health for all.
It is my strong conviction that increased Zambia-China cooperation in Belt and Road Traditional Medicine is dependent on our desire to share the different potentials and endowments of our two countries. It is in this respect, that this cooperation represents an expression of determination by the Chinese and Zambian leadership to steer our cooperation to higher heights.
Excellencies, Distinguished Delegates
Let me take this opportunity to mention that China has succeeded in containing the COVID-19 pandemic and is now experiencing a robust economic recovery under the sound and able leadership of His Excellency, President Xi Jinping. I believe Traditional Chinese Medicine may have played a very significant role in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is, therefore in order that we express our sincere gratitude to the Chinese Government and people of China for the timely assistance to other countries such as Zambia in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic through various donations and technical assistance, a gesture which we shall forever cherish. The donations are a clear demonstration of global good citizenship and goodwill in undertaking corporate social responsibility.
Distinguished Guests
The importance of this forum, therefore, can not be over-emphasized as global trends in international health cooperation between conventional and traditional medicine have to continue growing in order to achieve health for all for the citizens of the world. To this end, our friendly relations will continue to forge closer interdependence and integration among nations and regions.
Zambia looks forward to increased cooperation with the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and in particular, I wish to encourage business executives here present to explore the many opportunities available in Zambia.
