On September 6th, the 6th Belt and Road Forum for Traditional Chinese Medicine Development, as a summit forum of the 2023 China International Fair for Trade in Services, was successfully held at the Beijing National Convention Center. The forum was co-hosted by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, with the theme: 'Deepening Cooperation of Belt and Road Traditional Chinese Medicine Development and Jointly Creating a Global Community of Health for All'. Officials from Chinese and foreign government departments, representatives from international organizations, academicians from the Academy of Engineering, Nobel laureates, and leaders from the political consultative conferences of 10 provinces including Guangdong, Zhejiang, Shaanxi, Yunnan, Jiangxi, Fujian, Sichuan, Gansu, Hebei, and Henan, alongside diplomats from 20 embassies stationed in China from countries such as South Africa, Israel, Belarus, Pakistan, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Cape Verde, Liberia, Sri Lanka, Uruguay, and Cuba, as well as representatives from over 400 enterprises, participated in the event.

First and foremost, on behalf of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, I extend my heartfelt congratulations on the convening of the 6th Belt and Road Forum for Traditional Chinese Medicine Development. I warmly welcome all delegates and express my sincere gratitude to the leaders and experts for their robust support of the forum.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of President Xi Jinping’s proposal of the Belt and Road Initiative. Over the decade, Belt and Road cooperation has progressed from ‘sketching the outline’ to ‘filling in the details,’ becoming the most popular international public good and the largest international cooperation platform. Traditional Chinese Medicine, a gem of Chinese heritage and a vital component of global health care has fully demonstrated its advantages in integrating with the construction of the Belt and Road. It has contributed original insights into preventing and treating infectious diseases, intractable diseases, complex conditions, and rare diseases. Its services have expanded to cover 196 countries and regions worldwide, contributing to China’s strength in enhancing the well-being of people globally and building a community of common health for mankind.
Beijing, a city with a 3,000-year history of urban development and over 860 years as the capital, is also a gathering place for famous traditional Chinese medicine practitioners through the ages. The wisdom and experience accumulated over thousands of years of Traditional Chinese Medicine culture have been passed down from generation to generation on this land, fostering Beijing’s profound cultural heritage and enriching the resources for the development of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
In recent years, following President Xi Jinping’s significant statements on Traditional Chinese Medicine, we have adhered to the principle of giving equal importance to Chinese and Western medicine, optimizing and enhancing the Traditional Chinese Medicine service system and model, promoting innovation in Traditional Chinese Medicine science and technology, strengthening the dissemination of Traditional Chinese Medicine culture and talent cultivation, and vigorously promoting the development of the Traditional Chinese Medicine health industry. We are contributing Beijing’s solutions to bringing Traditional Chinese Medicine to the world and addressing common’ health issues facing humanity.
The world needs Traditional Chinese Medicine, and human health needs it even more! We will continue to leverage Beijing’s resource advantages, further explore the unique benefits of Traditional Chinese Medicine in disease prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation, strengthen the inheritance and protection of Traditional Chinese Medicine, promote the transformation of Traditional Chinese Medicine scientific research achievements, and strive to advance the high-quality development of the Traditional Chinese Medicine industry. We are committed to preserving, developing, and utilizing this treasure of the Chinese nation.
